CO155DMore Hunts from this outfitter
Hunt Description
As is well known, Colorado produces some of the biggest mule deer bucks in the country and many of those come out of the Gunnison Basin units. Not everyone will take a 190 inch buck in these units, but they are out there and this outfit has many to their credit. With an average in the 170 to 180 range, a good number of bucks taken each year will top that 190 mark.
In most cases, acquiring a deer permit to hunt the Gunnison Basin does require a good number of preference points but the wait is well worth it to the trophy deer hunter. There are also landowner tags available for those wanting to skip the draw and take a tag now and this outfitter can assist with that acquisition if needed.
The 3rd and 4th season rifle hunts are the most difficult to acquire and for good reason. By mid and late November, most of the deer have been pushed out of the high country by winter snows and they are congregated in the sage and scrub of the lower foothills. They are also in the beginning of the rut. With years of experience, this outfitter has learned the locations the trophy bucks prefer. These areas are typically hunted via 4x4, ATV's and a fair amount of hiking.
