Hunt Description
For those seeking a chance at a truly giant fair chase whitetail, Iowa is one of the best places to do it. Southern Iowa has become famous for the quality of bucks taken by archery and gun hunters each season. Bucks exceeding that magical 200" mark are taken from this part of the state annually and the demand for tags to hunt these areas is on the rise. Accessing productive hunting ground can be difficult but this outfitter has leased farms and properties in some of the best locations in the state.
Extensive pre-season scouting with a series of strategically placed trail cams tells him what will be available long before the first hunters arrive each fall. The hunting properties are a mixture of CRP lands, woodlots, corn and bean fields which are major food sources during the harsh Iowa winters, medium sized timber lots, and brushy creeks and draws. Ample food sources, including 40 acres of late season food plots, with nearby security cover provides all the deer need to stay in the area.
Comfortable ladder stands, Millennium lock-on stands, ground blinds, or 25 enclosed elevated box stands are all employed on these properties. Great effort is made to make hunters are comfortable while hunting so that they can stay daylight to dark. During the rut, that once-in-a-lifetime buck may appear up at any time. At the end of the day, hunters are picked up and taken back to the farm house for a full home cooked meal and comfortable bed.
Iowa non-resident deer permits are in high demand and can require a number of preference points to draw - especially the archery permits. It is highly likely that to book this hunt, it will need to be done 2 years in advance. It is highly recommended that anyone interested in hunting Iowa begin building their points right now. If needed, HuntersTrailhead will assist in acquiring the necessary points.
